How do you refuel a Wasp?
In the 2026 ATMOSFAR Demo, collect hydrogen crystals, process them in a hydrogen refinery, then transfer the finished fuel to the Wasp. Raw crystals, processed fuel in your personal tank and fuel already in the aircraft are three different stages.
These instructions apply to the March–April 2026 Demo. Recipes, capacities and objectives may change in Early Access; follow the quantities displayed in your build.
Start with a safe collection position
The resource trip takes the player close to island edges and dangerous vegetation. Look for a position that lets you use the extractor without standing directly in a hazard or chasing drops into the void.
Check personal electricity before extracting. Tool power is not the same as the hydrogen needed by the aircraft. If your backpack is nearly empty, address that shortage before committing to another resource field. The survival primer covers batteries and plant interactions.
After collecting, return to the workshop for processing. A crystal pickup adds raw material; it does not put usable fuel directly into the aircraft.
Build the refinery at your camp
Deploy the camp hub and make sure the crafting table is accessible. Open the table and inspect the hydrogen refinery recipe. If a component is missing, check existing storage before leaving to collect more.
A needed cog may already be available in your loot, or you may need to craft it. Raw scrap alone does not always satisfy a machine recipe. The crafting guide explains how to work backward from a missing part.
Place the refinery and connect it to the camp as your current interface requires. The hub distributes electricity to connected components. A built refinery still needs raw input and a functioning connection.
Give processing time to finish
Put the collected resource into the refinery and check its running state. Processing takes time in the Demo, so wait for finished fuel rather than expecting the whole batch immediately.
Use that interval for nearby aircraft inspection or inventory checks. Stay aware of where the processed fuel ends up. Do not leave a running stop and assume that material sitting in a refinery has already reached the aircraft.
After processing, compare the personal fuel indicator with the Wasp’s indicator. Transfer is its own interaction. If the aircraft still reads low, collecting more crystals is not necessarily the first solution: check whether finished fuel is waiting elsewhere.
Why does the fuel objective stay unfinished?
Check whether the objective requires fuel currently held in your personal tank, rather than the total you have produced. In the April Demo, transferring fuel before completing that personal-tank target can leave the task unfinished.
For example, a target of 100 is not met by a tank holding 93, even if the other seven units are already in the Wasp. Bring the personal tank to the requested amount before moving on to the transfer stage.
If the objective is still incomplete:
- Read whether it asks you to produce fuel, hold fuel or refuel the Wasp.
- Check the relevant tank, not a remembered total from earlier processing.
- Complete the personal-tank target before transferring more to the aircraft.
- Recheck the journal to see whether the next objective has appeared.
Follow the target and tank named in your current prompt. The April Demo’s objective behaviour may differ from Early Access.
Quick checks at each stage
| What you see | Check next |
|---|---|
| Crystals collected, aircraft still low | Refinery processing and transfer |
| Refinery unavailable | Crafting table, recipe components and camp setup |
| Machine built but not running | Input, connection and current interface prompt |
| Fuel produced, objective unchanged | Which tank or quantity the objective checks |
| Wasp fuel ready, departure blocked | Separate repair requirements and the next journal task |
Keep the workshop with you
Fuel is one reason the portable camp matters: it turns a resource stop into a service stop. Before packing, check the refinery and the supplies you need for the next flight. Then carry the hub with the Utility Wasp rather than leaving the equipment behind by accident.
The larger Cloud Cruiser has planned hydrogen extractors as part of its own support system. For the smaller Utility Wasp expedition, use the Demo’s crystal-and-refinery workflow, camp setup and preflight checks together.
